4555 Goodrington 21.06.05 - Tanks for the memory
GWR small prairie tank 4555 has left Goodrington on the 21st June 2005 and begun the climb to Churston with a Paignton to Kingswear service. 4555 was withdrawn form Plymouth Laira in November 1963, but was bought from BR by Patrick Whitehouse and Patrick Garland for £750, which included a light overhaul at Swindon. The locomotive then became a familiar sight on Western Region lines in the Birmingham area wearing its Great Western livery, before moving on to the Dart Valley Railway in 1965, where it hauled the official opening train. Transfer to the then Torbay Steam Railway came in 1973.
